Newspaper Coverage of 60th Charter of RC Jorhat

The 60th Charter Night and Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Rotary Club of Jorhat was held on May 28 2026. Prof. Ajanta Borgohain Rajkonwar, Vice Chancellor of Assam Women’s University, attended the event as the guest of honor. In her address, Prof. Rajkonwar spoke about the enduring importance of civic institutions and collective responsibility in an increasingly fragmented social landscape. She emphasized the role of organizations such as Rotary in sustaining public trust, social responsibility and community participation. Invited guests from neighbouring Rotary Clubs of Golaghat and Golaghat Elegance, and Secretary of the Lions Club also attended the historic event. Rotarians who have completed more than four decades in Rotary. Past District Governor Rtn. Trilok Singh, Rtn. Kamal Jain, Rtn. CA Dilip Kumar Somani, Rtn. Bhopinder Singh Rakhra and Rtn Surajit Chakraborty were proudly honoured for their decades of Service Above Self towards humanity.

Felicitation & Invited Talk

The club extended a warm invitation to Shri Jiten Gogoi and felicitated him with a Phulam Gamusa and a Memento. Secretary, Rtn. (Dr) Minakshi P. Hazarika introduced Shri Jiten Gogoi as a sincere, humble, hard-working and energetic worker in the Urban Water Supply Dept. (Jorhat Municipal Board). In his speech, Shri Gogoi spoke modestly about the experiences he faces in his vocation, his line of work. He remarked about the presence of arsenic and the deteriorating water quality in Jorhat and the lackadaisical attitude in solving the issue.

Invited Talk on Youth & Leadership

Since May is Youth Service Month, Arkasish Baruah & Farnaj Nusrin was invited on May 15, 2026 RWM to give their Talks on the topic, Leadership and Youth: Impact, Engagement & Setbacks in the current scenario. The speakers, powered by their recent successful RYLA experience, spoke eloquently about the impactful role of youth in today’s times. Rotarylet Shrey Modi, who attended the meeting, also talked on Gender & Work. Narrating his own personal experiences, he shared that work cannot be genderdized. That it is time to debunk the traditional mindset in this regard.

Drawing and Essay Writing Competition

Essay & Drawing Competition was conducted at Carmel School on May 31, 2026 which was a Sunday. Rtn Dorothy G. Momin and President, Rtn Neeta Taye conducted the competition assisted by Carmel School Interactors & Teacher-in-Charge of Interact Club, Ashim Saha. The Trophies, Certificates, Cash Awards and Refreshments with regard to the Carmel School competition was sponsored by Rtn. Karimul Haque and President, Rtn Neeta Lagachu Taye. Rtn. Kumud Chandra Lekhok created the beautiful Environment Day Logo of the competition.

New Generation Service Sponsorship of Interactors

Two students from Carmel School, Jorhat, Interactor Arkasish Baruah and Interactor Farnaj Nusrin participated in the residential RYLA successfully conducted by Rotary Club of Dibrugarh from 24th–26th April 2026, where 50 students from across Assam took part. Before leaving for Dibrugarh, both the Interactors from Carmel School were felicitated in the Club Assembly meeting during DG Dr. Elangbams visit. They further had the privilege to interact with the DG and share their thoughts with the audience. ITR Arkasish Baruah got the best participant award in this immensely successful and well-organized RYLA. Both Interactors were sponsored by Jorhat Rotarians: Dr. Minakshi Phookan Hazarika and Karimul Haque.

Cycle Rally for a Nasha Mukt Bharat

A Cycle Rally for a Nasha Mukt Bharat was organized on March 14th, 2026 by Rotary Club of Jorhat in collaboration with Jagannath Barooah University, CKB Commerce College, and DCB Girls College. 90 cyclists comprising of students and teachers from the three educational institutions enthusiastically participated in the Cycle Rally against drug abuse. On behalf of the club, President expressed her heartfelt thank you and appreciation to Rtn. Dhattatreya, for his presence, and for sponsoring the breakfast for the 90 participants. She also conveyed her appreciation to Rtn. Brijesh Poddar for sponsoring the 100 water bottles for the Cycle Rally .

The handover ceremony of the Renovated/Repaired GIRLS TOILET at SADAR BAGAN L. P. SCHOOL took place on March 16th, 2026 (Monday) at 11 am. TatXal/Weaving Loom and Yarn Distribution to SHGs

Rotary Club of Jorhat, in association with the All India Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Welfare Association, ONGC, Jorhat Branch , kick started the distribution of Tat-Xal Weaving Handloom Machine and Yarn to 10 Nos. Self-help Groups (total 20 Nos. set), under CSR ONGC ACP 2025-26 on 12th March, 2026. The first round of distribution of 6 sets of Tat-Xal and Yarn was given to 3 Women Self-help Groups of Maoutgaon, Bokolai, located in Golaghat District. 14 Weaving Looms & Rolls of Yarn were distributed to 7 Women Self-help Groups in the 2nd and final phase of Weaving Loom & Yarn Distribution that was carried out on April 10, 2026 in Teok, Jorhat & Titabor respectively.

Rotary Service Trust of Jorhat in association with the All India Scheduled Caste Scheduled Tribe Welfare Association, ONGC, Jorhat Branch, distributed 20 Nos. of Tat-Xal Weaving Handloom Machine, and Yarn to 10 Nos. Self-help Groups under CSR ONGC ACP 2025-26. The rest, 14 sets of Tat-Xal and Yarn was given to 7 Women Self-help Groups of Teok, Jorhat & Titabor yesterday on April 10, 2026. The President of Rotary Club of Jorhat, Rtn. Dr. Neeta Lagachu Taye, would like to place on record, the unstinted help and support given by Rtn. Brijesh Poddar in overseeing the paperwork entailed, to materialize the project, in spite of his very busy schedule.

Public Image Initiative through Newspaper Reporting & Facebook Coverage of the World Understanding and Peace Day observed by Rotary Club of Jorhat on 20th February 2026 in the Rotary Service Trust Building. Noted Academician and Peace Activist, Dr. Archana Bhattacharjee, was invited to speak on the occasion. On 23rd February 2026, Rtn Deepak Dutta, Rtn Jiten Bordoloi, Rtn Shyam Modi and Rtn Ranjit Bordoloi also celebrated World Understanding and Peace Day with the young minds of Kunwori Pukhuri Public School where Rtn Jiten Bordoloi gave a speech on the Importance of Peace in our lives. All credit goes to Rtn Ranjit Bordoloi for beautifully carrying out the publicity work and giving Rotary image a big boost.

Community Service_ Girls Toilet Repair/Renovation

As the Girls Toilet at SADAR BAGAN L.P. SCHOOL was in a very bad state, Rotary Club of Jorhat led by Rtn Deepk Dutta offered to repair and renovate it. The project was taken up immediately and the renovation and repair work was recently completed. The formal handover will be taking place soon. The amount of about 18000/- spent on the Girls Toilet Repair/Renovation project has been generously borne by Rtn Deepak Dutta. On behalf of the club, the President expressed her appreciation and thankfulness to Rtn Deepak Dutta for this kind gesture made by him keeping in mind the urgent necessity of this basic requirement for girls washroom.

Rotary Jorhat marked the 77th Republic Day with the Unfurling of the National Flag in the club premises by PDG Trilok Singh; followed by a motivational camp and food packet distribution program at the District Observation Home for Juvenile children at Lichubari, Jorhat. The President and other Rotarians accompanying her gave compassionate and motivational speeches, and further interacted with the 60 young children who had dreams and hopes in their hearts.

Community Service_ School Wall Painting

Wall Painting & Beautification of Jorhat Boys Residential Training Centre (JBRTC ) in Timtimia, Jorhat, an adopted school of Jorhat Rotary Club. 6 walls were beautifully painted at the JBRTC School in Timtimia Gaon, Jorhat by Club Presidents former mentee, and ex-student of CKB Commerce College, Prachi Sutradhar. The school walls are now painted with the District Map of Jorhat, Map of Assam, and pictures depicting educational themes. The wall painting project took about 20 days to complete. The lovely artwork by Prachi will be educative, and will also motivate the students to learn. A dash of colour is now added to the school premises. Club Secretary, Rtn. Dr. Minakshi Phookan Hazarika, sponsored the painting of a wall of the school, while the rest was borne by the club.

Donation of Sewing Machine to CKB Commerce College Women Cell, Jorhat. On December 20, 2025 the second Sewing Machine was handed over to CKB Commerce College Women Cell by the members of Rotary Club of Jorhat. The first was handed over three years ago on the same day, i.e., on December 20, 2022. A 7-day Threadpreneur Workshop was previously successfully organized by the College, from September 24 to October 3, 2024, that aimed to equip the girl students with practical skills in sewing, fostering an environment of empowerment, skill-building, and entrepreneurship. The workshop trained 15 girl students and the participants learned to sew garments, such as blouses and kurta. With the second Sewing Machine, the Women Cell of the college aims to continue the Threadpreneur Workshop by intaking 30 more students.

Childrens Day was celebrated on November 14, 2025 by Rotary Club of Jorhat in collaboration with the hundred year old YMCA Pre Primary English Medium School, situated at Mission Hospital Campus, Jorhat, on November 14, 2025. Mrs. Anita Jamir, Principal of the school delivered the welcome address., and this was followed by the felicitation of the President of Rotary Club of Jorhat, Dr. Neeta Lagachu Taye, and Rotarians Anmona Bora, Smita Bezbaruah, and Bhopinder Rakhra along with another guest, Mrs. Anindita Barua. The School organized a fancy dress competition among the students, and the wonderful choreography and performances by the little students electrified the atmosphere. The members of Rotary Club of Jorhat distributed gifts and sweet packets to the students. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony of the Fancy Dress competition. The program was hosted by Rtn Dorothy G Momin. Also present were Dr. Sajib Barua, Rev. Silveraj and the parents of the children.

World Polio Day was celebrated on 24th October, 2025 at DCB Girls College where Dr Rupanjali Phukan, Medical & Health Officer, Titabor Block, presented a talk on the significance of this day. She addressed the 95 NCC girl cadets/students of DCB Girls College who are the future mothers of our society and explained the importance of prevention of Polio. It was an interactive session where students asked questions in the session. Other Rotary members were also present at the meeting. Credit goes to Rtn Dorothy for successfully organizing the program at short notice with 95 NCC girl cadets.

The badge ceremony of the Interact Club of Carmel School took place on September 8th. On behalf of Rotary Jorhat, the President offered her congratulations to the new Executive Council of the Carmel School Interact Club. She also thanked Rotarian Surajit Chakraborty and Rotarian Umesh Sharma, for their support and presence in the Investiture Ceremony of the Interactors at Carmel school. Koustav Banerjee, an Interactor of Carmel School, Jorhat performed exceptionally well in the R0YLA hosted by RC, Dibrugarh ( March 28-30, 2025) earning Special Recognition from Judges & 2nd Best Individual Performer. As he could not collect the award at the time, it was handed over during the Investiture Ceremony that took place on September 8th, 2025 in Carmel School.

Repair of KONWARI PUKHURI HIGH SCHOOL wash basin

The hand wash basin was donated by Rotary Club of Jorhat using district grant three years prior. Rotarians, on an unexpected visit recently in July, 2025 came to see the wash basin in a dilapidated condition. They immediately thought of repairing it as the school students will face harrowing situation once school reopens in the sweltering month of August. The basin has been repaired at Kuworipukhuri HS at a total cost of Rs 9200 (Rs 8,200 paid by the club & Rs 1000 paid by the school management). Rt. Dipak Dutta coordinated the repairing work with the school authorities.

Free Health Check-up Camp in Timtimia, Baghchung.

A free health check-up camp was organized by Rotary Club of Jorhat in collaboration with Lions Eye Hospital, Jorhat and Inner Wheel Club of Jorhat in the premises of Boys Residential Special Training Centre located at Timtimia Gaon, Baghchung, Jorhat on 9th of August 2025 (Saturday) from 10am to 1pm. Altogether 16 boys from the residential school in the age bracket of 8-14 years, sheltered in this residential school and 76 people across ages 17 to 92 years from the nearby village attended the camp. The general health check up was done by Dr Sanchayita Nath from Titabor Civil Hospital and eye checkup was done by Lions Eye Hospital.

To mark Doctor’s Day, two renowned doctors were invited to grace our RWM, Dr Dipak Sarma, acclaimed Cardiologist, and past Rotarian of RC Jorhat, and Dr Amrit Kr Saikia, exemplary Neurosurgeon of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital. Both the doctors shared their valuable thoughts on the occasion. Dr Dipak Sarma pointed out the seminal role Rotary Jorhat played in the installation of the much-needed ICU & Dialysis Unit in JCMH and how it has benefitted the society at large. Dr Amrit Kr Saikia talked about the importance of keeping the society healthy and alive by being true to our respective callings. To mark the occasion of Chartered Accountants Day, the club proudly felicitated the 3 esteemed CA’s of our club. Dilip Kr Somani, Brijesh Poddar, Sunil Kr Atal with phulam gamochas and small gifts as token of our love and appreciation to their dedicated service.

The 2025-26 team led by President Neeta & Secretary Minakshi flagged off the new rotary year with a mission specifically devoted to serving humanity. The duo visited the “Missionaries of Charity” (Nirmal Hriday) located in Baghchung, Jorhat, at 8 am, to donate one day ration for 35 inmates there (2 meals - lunch & dinner) along with basic necessities like bathing soap, washing soap, face powder, hair oil, phenyl, bed sheets, & mosquito nets. Heartfelt appreciation expressed to Rtn. Devajeet Khaund for sponsoring the mosquito nets and bed sheets. Sincere appreciation articulated to Rtn. Shyam Modi, for arranging the donated articles. Warm gratitude voiced to Secretary Minakshi for her thoughtfulness in sponsoring, and buying the fresh vegetables so early in the morning. Heartfelt thankfulness conveyed to Rtn. Dilip Kumar Somani, for joining the President, & Secretary, in the Service Above Self program on July 1st.
